REVIEWS BY BENEDICT ‘NED’ JONES 60 PG /40 VG VAPE Organically Grown Premium Quality 3% and 5% strengths Mixed Berries PG/VG ratio: 60/40 Additional sweetener: Minimal Throat hit: Moderate Simplicity is usually the key to producing a good quality CBD profile, as complex blends can easily be distorted by the naturally-occurring botanicals flavours of CBD isolate. Mixed Berries doesn’t try to break the mould, but that’s probably for the best. A tart candied raspberry seems to be the front runner in the blend, with support from darker berries which add some depth to the profile. It’s a sticky, sweet mix that will be very familiar to veteran vapers. The CBD isolate’s flavour is quite noticeable here, but it augments the profile in an unexpected and rather pleasing way. It seems to add a tropical citrus element to the mix along with the more botanical accent. The result is a solid CBD e-liquid that will please most vapers. Lemon Sherbet PG/VG ratio: 60/40 Additional sweetener: Minimal Throat hit: Moderate Another simple blend from Jenson E-cigs. This is a potent candied lemon with moderate sweetness, and a somewhat sticky mouthfeel. There’s also some more natural zest notes, though, so it’s not totally one dimensional and there is a hint of the fizziness found in an authentic sherbet sweet. This profile is augmented quite heavily by the CBD isolate, however. This imparts an almost medicinal quality which I quite enjoy but understand will not be for everyone. The result is a distinctive herbal lemon candy profile that will be more suited to vapers who are comfortable with being able to easily taste the CBD component of their e-liquid. Menthol PG/VG ratio: 60/40 Additional sweetener: Minimal Throat hit: Moderate, with cooling There’s not really too much to say about Jenson E-cig’s Menthol CBD offering. It’s a sharp wintergreen style menthol blend with the addition of some botanical CBD notes. Unlike some other menthol offerings, Jenson have opted to not add any sweet supporting flavours, which makes results is a more natural, soothing menthol. The CBD accents are minimal here, masked well by the potent iciness of the main flavour. As you might expect from a combination of menthol and CBD, there is a fair amount of throat hit going on here, but for many menthol vapers this is a good thing. Overall, Menthol is a simple CBD blend that’s well suited to vapers who do not wish to taste much of the botanical flavour that CBD imparts. Key Lime Pie VG/PG ratio: 50/50 Additional sweetener: Moderate Throat hit: Mild Key lime pie can be a difficult profile to get right in the e-liquid world. Several layered sweet flavours can easily become cloying if not mixed with care. I’m glad to report that this offering from Mick’s E-liqs has done well to avoid such a problem. The top note is a mellow candy lime that carries plenty of sweetness into the mix, along with an almost sticky mouthfeel. This is supported by a creamy base that is slightly more prominent than I would have expected, but this is a welcome surprise, as it makes for a slightly different balance compared to other key lime pie e-liquids. The profile is rounded out with a very subtle biscuit accent that adds some darker sweetness to the mix. This is a competent, creamy key lime pie. White Walter VG/PG ratio: 50/50 Additional sweetener: Moderate Throat hit: Mild, with cooling A Heisenberg-style flavour seems to be a rite of passage for new e-liquid companies and every brand puts their own spin on this mysterious fruit/aniseed/menthol combination. Mick’s E-liqs’ offering genuinely stands out from the crowd in a sea of copy cat profiles. A succulent candy grape is the top note here, bringing plenty of dark sweetness and a touch of juiciness to the table. This is supported by a subtle raspberry accent, which brightens things up without distracting from the grape. A mellow and sweet aniseed does a good job of adding intrigue to the fruity top notes and gives White Walter that signature Heisenberg connotation. The profile is rounded off with a mild coolant which stops the grape notes from becoming too heavy. This is a fantastic Heisenberg style e-liquid. Blackcurrant Menthol VG/PG ratio: 50/50 Additional sweetener: Minimal Throat hit: Mild, with cooling Blackcurrant Menthol is the simplest of the e-liquids I have sampled for this review. With a profile that’s as stripped back as this one, proper ingredient selection is absolutely vital. I’m happy to say that Mick’s E-liqs have done a good job here. A strong candy blackcurrant is the star of the show. It brings a good amount of sweetness to the mix, along with a pleasant, mildly sticky mouth-feel. It’s not one-dimensional either and has a hint of some deeper earthy notes. This is complemented by a mild coolant finish, which only imparts a small amount of mint flavour and for the most part simply refreshes the palate. This is a competently mixed, if very simple e-liquid. 142 | THE VAPER EXPO
