Tesla have built a fantastic reputation for themselves in the last few
years by producing a solid line up of workhorse mods that can withstand
the trials of daily usage. With pod systems seemingly dominating the
starter kit market in 2018, it makes sense that such a well-regarded
manufacturer would want a piece of the action.
The Sliver is an “open” pod system, meaning that the proprietary pods
can be refilled several times before a replacement is required. The refill
process here is about as simple as it gets, using two removable rubber
plugs as a fill hole and air displacement system respectively. Once
filled and given some time to wick, the pod slides into the top of the
battery portion of the Sliver, ready to go.
There’s only one button and no options or settings available here,
just a simple plug and play device that’s turned on with five clicks and
activated by the pressure of your draw.
Using 18mg strength e-liquid of both salt and freebase varieties, I
had a satisfying vape experience. The airflow is smooth and silent,
which when coupled with the slender design of the Sliver makes for a
fantastically stealthy device.
There are only two drawbacks to this device, and they may not be
issues for all users. Firstly, the battery life did leave something to be
desired. During moderate usage at high nicotine levels, expect to
charge the Sliver once or twice per day. The incredibly short charge
time does somewhat mitigate this problem, but if you do not regularly
have access to charging during the day, this does relegate the Sliver to
the role of a back-up device.
Secondly, the pods seem to struggle with e-liquids that are thicker than
a 60/40 VG/PG ratio. When using e-liquids of 50/50 and 60/40 VG/PG
ratios I didn’t run into any problems, but after switching out to a 70/30
juice, I could tell that the wicking was struggling to keep up and got
hints of a dry hit at times.
Overall, provided you don’t have unrealistic expectations of such a
tiny battery and keep to using thinner e-liquids, the Tesla Sliver is a
serviceable device for those in need of something ultra-portable and
inconspicuous.
