The Evolution of Vape

PART 2

In this issue we will see how the industry expanded rapidly in terms of devices available and the range of juices on the market . We see it develop and grow in its unregulated state , see how there is confusion about e-cigarettes and different countries take different approaches to regulation .
2007
E-cigarettes can now be found throughout Europe and the US . Up until now e-cigarettes had three main components - a cartridge containing the e-liquid , a device to atomise the liquid and a battery . However all this was set to change with the invention of the cartomizer . Umer and Tariq ( Taz ) Sheikh , two British entrepreneurs invented the cartomizer which combined the cartridge and the atomiser in one unit now known as the cartomizer . Their Gamucci brand is seen as one of the real milestones in the development of the e-cigarette and their distinctive devices were regarded as the first European electronic cigarette .
2008
Turkey ’ s Health Ministry suspends the sale of e-cigarettes , claiming that they are “ just as harmful ” as regular cigarettes . The World Health Organization says it does not consider e-cigarettes to be a legitimate smoking cessation aid . Health New Zealand concludes that carcinogens and toxicants are present only below harmful levels in e-cigarettes and that they represent a “ safe alternative to smoking .” We now see the beginning of the move away from e-cigarettes looking like high tech versions of traditional cigarettes with the invention of mechanical mods and the emergence of more powerful and ultimately bigger batteries to power the devices . We were now seeing the arrival of tanks for the e-liquid containing replaceable coils , design improvements for better airflow , longer-lasting batteries and this led to a rapid expansion within the industry as more and more people turned to vaping .
2009
Australia bans the possession and sale of electronic cigarettes which contain nicotine . Jordan ’ s Ministry of Health bans the import of the electronic cigarettes , citing World Health Organization ’ s health concerns . The FDA directs the US Customs and Border Protection to reject the entry of electronic cigarettes into the United States on the basis of them being unapproved drug delivery devices . Canada bans the sale , advertising and import of electronic cigarettes . Hong Kong bans electronic cigarettes . The Electronic Cigarette Association ( ECA ) is formed to speak on behalf of the electronic cigarette industry , especially in response to health concerns , and to help introduce industry standards . Panama bans the importation , distribution and sale of electronic cigarettes . Saudi Arabia bans sales of electronic cigarettes . Amazon . com prohibits sale of electronic tobacco products on its website . Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association ( CASAA ) forms to ensure the availability of effective , affordable and reduced harm alternatives to smoking . PayPal freezes accounts of electronic cigarette vendors in the US and prohibits them from using the service .
