Part Five
Like every niche group, the vaping community has its own set ofterms and slang which may
be confusing to those new to vaping and totally unintelligible to those outside the community.
Over the next few issues Vapouround Magazine will take a look at some of the more popular, and not so popular,
terms relatedat some of the more popular, and not so popular, terms related to vaping and e-cigarettes.
So lets continue where we left off with our next batch of vaping-related words and phrases.

Tailpiping - The practice of drawing directly on an
atomiser without using a driptip or mouthpiece. This
was popular in the old days when voltage could not be
increased easily, and vapers who needed a big hit
would suck the atty direct in order to get hotter vapour.
Tanks – A plastic or glass storage chamber that holds
the e-liquid in an electronic cigarette. They are
designed to be clear so that you can see how much
liquid you have left. They can crack or break from time
to time but if these happens they are designed to be
replaced quickly and easily. A lot of mods these days
come with spare tanks.
Temperature Control (TC) - A feature which allows the
atomiser temperature to be controlled so that dry hits
can be avoided. An additional benefit is to control
maximum atomiser temperature in order to limit any
thermal degradation products in the vapour. Obviously
for this to work he user would have to know the
maximum temperature that any given liquid should be
vaped at.
Thermal Runaway – As the name suggests this is a
very serious situation to be in but it is, thankfully, very
rare. Here a chain reaction within the battery leads to it
seriously overheating to the point where it can burst
into flames and explode. This could be caused by
overcharging, a short circuit or by physical damage to
the battery.
Throat Hit – This is the tingling feeling at the back of
the throat when vaping a juice that contains nicotine.
The greater the nicotine level then the greater the

throat hit that can be experienced. This can be very
important for many vapers as the throat hit is often
seen as a key part of the overall vaping experience.
Tiger Coil – A coil wrapped with a strand of regular
kanthal twisted with ribbon wire.
Titanium wire – Alternative to nichrome, nickel, and
kanthal wires. This can provide a cleaner flavour and it
is excellent for use with temperature controlled devices.
Some vapers really do not care about the wire used in
their devices while, for others, this is very important
indeed.
Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) – Policy or practice of
providing less harmful nicotine-containing products. We
