Travel : On Your 2017 List of Intentions ?
The holidays have now come and gone , kids have gone back to school and parents back to a work schedule , and so very many people have begun acting on the most popular US New Year ’ s resolution – to lose weight & get in shape ! Does that sound familiar ? Or perhaps your list of resolutions ( I like to call them intentions ) includes checking off some bucket-list items that involve traveling outside of your current city / state to complete , and you ’ re wondering “ how am I ever going to do that ? Afford this ?” And January is already half-way in the history books ! Join me as we explore the concept of checking off bucket-list items together !
Each and every year , millions and millions of people , especially in western cultures , make resolutions to ring in the next year , and yet according to the University of Scranton , only 8 % of people actually keep their resolutions – eight percent ! And , of course , many of us would respond to that just like international blogger Alison Kroulek , “ Duh ?!” And she has quite an interesting blog article on the history and New Year ’ s Resolutions that ’ s worth the quick read too .
Regardless of your response to the statistic , I think it is vitally important to be true to oneself , dig deep down inside the amazing heart & soul you were blessed with and simply ask , “ If I knew I could not fail , what would I DO in 2017 – intentionally ?” You may find a very short and succinct list , or perhaps a bit more elaborate one . The point is to get those intentions from lingering inside your mind and body to the outside as a living document that you can engage with daily . The way to get ahead is to actually GET STARTED ! You ’ d be surprised how far ahead of the masses that will take you !
For example , I spent New Year ’ s Eve 2015 with my cousin , a successful Hollywood performer , and her circle of chosen family . The house was full of merriment , new connections and positive energy being exchanged all throughout the night … and the food / drink were pretty good too ! ( smile ) Then just after midnight , my cousin piped up and asked us to quietly write a list of intentions for 2016 as we listened to the replay of New York City ’ s “ Rockin ’ New Year ’ s Eve .” After a few minutes , she then offered the floor to anyone who wanted to share some / all of their intentions list so that we could join together in community throughout the year in holding space for one another as we each ventured toward realizing our list of intentions . I would like to publicly share my results as a matter of accountability and illustration . Side note : most of us despise this part of creating or achievement , and every successful person I ’ ve ever met has an accountability person / mechanism in place , even super stars !
I had a total of 15 intentions on my list for 2016 , many of which worked together or were intertwined . I completed five of them in-full , one of which has recently changed our life completely ! There will be more details to come on that too . I began intentionally working on and made progress on six more of them , and one was stricken from the list as it involved the gift of travel to help someone important to me check-off a bucket list item , and the intended recipient refused . This brings the total to twelve . That
