To meet the challenge of providing a seamless service of delivery, I sought help and connected with
other business leaders, associations, civic and political organizations. The power of building
relationships and finding mentors cannot be underestimated when navigating uncharted waters of
‘what’s next’ and asking questions of ‘who do you know…’? I discovered by having a strategy for a
common purpose with like-minded people helps to bring clarity and an inspired motivation to further
achieve success. I tapped into the different gifts and talents of other people, provided leadership and
team building programs. Peter Drucker writes, “All work is for a team. No individual has the
temperament and skill to do every job. The purpose of a team is to make strengths productive and
weaknesses irrelevant.”
Within five years of operations, the decision to fill this one need and the decision to serve other business
entities afforded my company to emerge from a one-person operation to 185 full-time employees that
provided data conversion services to the public and private sectors with operations in two states and
three locations. Notwithstanding, risks and challenges were an integral part of the learning curve to the
business development and growth.
What are the options for success? Many entrepreneurs have found that success begins within the inner
authentic self, aligned with the mind and heart. Herein rest the foundation for innovation, creativity,
dreams, faith, commitment, and other personal characteristics to insure the successful role of an
entrepreneur. Keep in mind that we are living in an area of accelerated change. This change is combined
with a new age of digital technology affording businesses to reach people and talents globally. This
opens vast opportunities to tap into pools of resources and inclusions of ethnic and gender with
knowledge, experience and skills to help businesses, regardless of size to rapidly expand and grow
exponentially. On-line internet technology, social media, diversity and the power of building
relationships are keys to connecting and attracting resources of experienced retired individuals who are
looking for an Encore Career to engaging the creative minds of our youth.
Entrepreneurialship is another gateway toward an Encore Career for the New Age Mature Generation.
Today in my third Encore Career, I remain an advocate for Entrepreneurialship – especially for women
age 40 and beyond who still face challenges of inequality in obtaining loans for business and inequality
because of ‘ageism’. In your global search for products and services, take time to seek out those at the
bottom of the pyramid who have talents and skills to help you grow your new-found business and make
your dreams become a reality.
