4. Background - Look to see what is in your shot. It’s not a bad idea to do a test video to see exactly what your audience will see. In addition to what they will see what will they hear? Is the dishwasher or dryer running? Are your kids or co-workers depending on where you go live making noise?

5. Content - Think about the messaging in your broadcast before you go live. I often will make bullet points just so that I’m sure I hit everything I intended to cover. Allow for flexibility though and be natural.

6. Engage - This is interactive. The intent is not to talk AT your audience but WITH your audience. Ask them questions and acknowledge those that have joined. Feel free to let the audience know that they can invite others.

7. Audience - You’re in control. Do you want to go live to your friends only or the public? You can decide. Another place you can go live in is a group or an event. These are great places to engage with your community.

8. Length - You can go live for up to four hours in a single session. Your video can be as short as you like or up to four hours. When Facebook first shared the tips they suggested going live for a minimum of 15 - 20 minutes. The reason for this is that many will not be there right when you go live. Give them time to join you. Facebook is building a waiting room that should help with that.

9. Liveleap - Do you have multiple pages that you manage? If you do, this can be very helpful. It allows you to go live from one place and instantly have that live video in multiple places. https://liveleap.com/

10. Authenticity - This is the most important tip to Facebook Live. Be YOU. Be authentic. Your audience will connect with you and if they don’t, they aren’t your audience.

After your Facebook Live is over you can upload it to YouTube, include it in a blog post or post it to your website.
