Valley View Make A Wish

“Tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters advance the Make-A-Wish® vision to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a critical illness. In the United States and its territories, on average, a wish is granted every 34 minutes. We believe a wish experience can be a game-changer. This one belief guides us and inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve.” The Make-A-Wish Organization has been important to Valley View since 2014, when we granted 6-year-old Haley Richmond’s wish. Diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy at a very young age, Haley’s wish was to meet Princesses Anna and Elsa from “Frozen.” Since 2014, Valley View High School hosted Make-A-Wish fundraiser games under the motto, “Changing lives one swish at a time.” As part of the fundraiser, we designed and sold t-shirts sporting this motto. On February 6th, 2018, Valley View High School hosted a fundraiser during the girls and boys basketball games against Jonesboro High School. With the close proximity of our schools, we brought in a big crowd that night. The high school’s goal was 1,000 dollars. We nearly doubled it, making 1,938 dollars that night. The Valley View Band Boosters donated 1,800 dollars for this foundation. The elementary also collected money, under the incentive of beloved Principal Pam Clark kissing a pig. As a district we made a grand total of 13,413 dollars for Make-A-Wish. We presented the district check at Valley High School elementary on February 13th. Haley Richmond was our special guest again during that night’s game. Article by Ally Quick and Madeline Adams
