ASIA RISES TO END VIOLENCE
AGAINST WOMEN
In January in Taipei, Asian OBR activists and
women leaders from Taiwan, Hong Kong, China,
Mongolia, Japan, the Philippines and India gathered for the first One Billion Rising Asia Summit.
The women shared experiences, challenges and
victories and built a strategy and a platform for a
regional One Billion Rising Revolution Campaign.
The Summit was hosted by the Garden of Hope
Foundation in Taiwan and focused on common
reasons for rising, on strengthening solidarity in
the region, and rising against issues of militarism,
labor exploitation, trafficking, political repression
and patriarchy.
STATE OF FEMALE REVOLUTION
Following previous panels “The State of Female America” and “The State of
Female Justice”, this year One Billion Rising leaders participated in the “State
of Female Revolution”, an examination and conversation about what it takes to
build revolution, be in solidarity, and affect change. The panel was moderated
by GRITtv‘s Laura Flanders and featured Agnes Pareyio (Kenya), Monique Wilson (Philippines), Zoya (Afghanistan), Christine Schuler Deschryver (Democratic
Republic of Congo), Kimberlé Crenshaw and Eve Ensler.
