What qualifications and skills students need to get admitted?

The recruiters and MFE students explained what students need in order to be a part of this program. Quantitative skills are not enough to be a part of the MFE program. Students need soft skills as well to be right for this program. The recruiters also quoted “if you are into quantitative work such as writing codes etcetera, this may not be the right program for you. However, students must have strong math skills”. Furthermore, the program has many scholarship opportunities for students. Students must also have two or more professional letters of recommendation. Making connections with your professors can aid with this and build great relationships. Also, students do not just have to be in an Economics or Finance program to apply to the MFE program. Students ranging from engineering to pre-med have been admitted to the MFE program. Lastly, having any sort of work experience that shows hard work is beneficial.

“We love UW students because of their co-op experience, which makes them more marketable. However, we still do admit bright students with a high GPA even if they do not have any co-op experience.” –MFE recruiter
