PRSSA Fall Excursion

See the UVU PR Crew at Domo, Adobe & Nuvi!

PRSSA offers its members many opportunities to enhance their education, broaden their network and launch their career. A great way to do this is through PR Excursions. Last week, UVU PRSSA took 25 students on a PR Excursion to visit DOMO, Adobe and NUVI. The attendees were able to learn valuable insight from premier PR professionals as well as network and build connections for future internships and jobs.

The VP of Communications for DOMO, Julie Kehoe, offered knowledge from her past and current experiences working in agency PR and in-house tech PR. She believes everyone should get agency experience working with different companies in different industries. Her advice for soon-to-be graduated PR students is to prepare an impressive resume with measurable experience. She said to be a good writer, set high goals and take risks. Kehoe has found success by watching and learning from valuable mentors. She challenged the UVU PRSSA students to find mentors who will help open doors to the future.

David Olsen is the Senior Manager of Customer Programs at Adobe. He comes from a line of PR professionals and has always been around the PR industry. The UVU PRSSA group took a lengthy tour of the 280,000 sq. foot Adobe Lehi campus complete with a rock wall, full gym, music room, gaming room, Innovative art and eco-friendly details. In his advice, Olsen placed high importance on internships and honing “human skills.”

The Executive VP of Business Development for NUVI, Stuart Dean, shared his many years of PR experience with the UVU PRSSA students. His first point is to remember that social media should always be considered a public relations responsibility. He stressed the importance of writing well and speaking with confidence. Dean is convinced that UVU PRSSA is developing some of the best public relations talent in the world.

The PR Excursions are free and accept up to 25 attendees in the fall and spring semesters through a first come first serve basis. Watch for the spring 2017 registration details on the UVU PRSSA socials.
