Letter From the President

Dear #UVUPRCrew,

November is officially upon us! Crazy to think that Fall semester is quickly coming to an end and many of our members will be graduating in just a few short weeks. Such an exciting time!

During my years as an entry-level college student, I was solely focused on completed the minimum coursework required for each of my classes. As a senior projected to graduate in just a few short months, this mentality has completely shifted for the better. I now full-heartedly believe that in order for the time, effort and money spent while in school to be worth it, I must truly engage in every learning opportunity possible.

The thought of graduation is definitely exciting, but scary as well. Think about spending four years of your life totally immersed in difficult coursework, only to come out of it with a job that you were qualified to receive with only a high school diploma. NOT a good thought. A simple way that I believe one can avoid this dilemma is to not only pass all of your courses, but complete each course with an in-depth knowledge of it’s material.

An employer doesn’t care that you took PR Writing; they only want to know that you can write. Likewise, an employer doesn’t care if you received an “A” in Case Studies; they only want to see you have learned from that experience and can produce results. Same goes for all other courses. In order for YOU to be as marketable as possible upon graduation, you must be able to apply the concepts that you’re learning.

A campaign is described as “a series of operations intended to achieve a particular objective.” Public Relations is all about achieving strategic objectives. I can think of no better way to learn effective campaign planning and production than by participating in PRSSA’s November event “Under PRessure.” Check out the “Events” portion of this newsletter for more info on how YOU can learn this vital skill in positive, fun, no-pressure environment. Remember crew, our lives are no one’s responsibility but our own. Whether you’re an entry-level PR student or a graduating senior get engaged, learn all that you can and invest in yourself; because YOU will be the one to reap the benefits.

Can’t wait to see you there!

Sincerely,

Britnee Bromley Nuehring

Until next time Wolverines!
