Facts about Pablo Picasso • Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881 in Malaga, Spain. • His full name has 23 words, a series of the names of saints and relatives. • His first words were “Piz,Piz” which was short for Lapiz, The Spanish word for pencil. • Picasso was skilled from a very early age; he always had a passion for drawing. • He completed his first painting at the age of 9; “Le picador”. • Because he was so preoccupied with his art, Picasso was a terrible student, but no doubt that he was brilliant artistically. • When the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre, he was fingered as a suspect, and was questioned by the police, but he was shortly after released. • In 1900 he made his first trip to France, where he had spent most of his life. • Pablo Picasso wrote 300 poems. • On April 8, 1973 Pablo Picasso died in France and was buried in the grounds of a château that he bought in south of France. • It is estimated that Picasso produced 50,000 pieces of art which include paint- ings, sculptures, ceramics, drawings, prints, tapestries and rugs. • Several paintings by Picasso rank among the most expensive paintings in the world. And More of Picasso’s paint- ings have been stolen than those of any other artist. Pablo Picasso In this tiny corner, I’m going to share with you the one and only secret to improve your drawing skills (I’ll be posting my first portrait and one of the latest’s) As you can see, on the right, my very first portrait drawing attempt, it was not a good one, but I was extremely happy with the result, because I never be- lieved that I had it in me, I was always afraid to try and fail, it didn’t occur to me that I could get better. Now, the one on the left is one of my latest draw- ings, you can obviously see the difference, all what it takes is just trying and not be afraid of the results To draw well, you have to practice, a lot. That is the secret, the only secret. The more you draw the more confident you’ll be with a pen in hand. So grab that pen and try, draw anything, shapes, faces, draw from magazines or photographs, from nature. Stay with it, draw every chance you get. Last, keep in mind that practice makes perfection. 34
