My story as a photographer
by Ikram Imen KOUACHI
I
don’t recall when I started practic-
ing photography but all I can remember
is being a photographer from the day I
opened my eyes into this world.
What’s fascinating about it is how we
can make a memory hold still and cling
to it forever.
Photography is an art of observation, as
Elliot Erwitt said: “it has little to do with
the things you see and everything to do
with the way you see them”.
Taking photos gives meaning to one’s
life, it simply makes us feel like we have a
purpose, a sense of community, and love
in our lives. A photographer is someone
who should always use his camera as a
tool of empathy, love and emotion.

We’re all photographers, one way or
another, whether we use our cameras,
phones or even our eyes, we take photos
because they make us feel something,
something deep, in our hearts, in our
souls, and it just compels us to take a
photograph where time is forever fro-
zen.
As a photographer, writing these words
made me think about the photos I took
when I first noticed my passion towards
this art and I would like to share this par-
ticular one with you. (The photograph)
It might be a bit out of focus, and com-
position rules aren’t well applied on it
but looking thoroughly after all these
years made me realize that I had to take
it because it was along with so many
other photos the stepping stone to the
quality of my photography nowadays.
It’s still not perfect, I guarantee that but
perfection is what a photographer aims
for every time he grabs his camera to ex-
press a feeling, to share tenderness and
to be free.
