Rehabilitation and
Re-Use: Mother
The project is situated in
Shoreditch which is very much
gentrified. This process poses a
threat as the local culture which
once made up the area is at risk of
being lost. The notion of globalism
and localism is currently
imbalanced and this proposal
looks to re-intact the global
companies moving into the area
with its current well-established
cultural and diverse community.
The proposal looks to introduce
an incubation space to promote
the start up businesses
and would be overseen and
partnered by the co-sharing
workspaces with Mother, a digital
advertising agency. A hotel for
Mother’s clients and temporary
accommodation for incubators is
also added and creates a working
relationship between one of
the UK’s top creative agencies
and its local community. The
collaboration allows Mother to
seek more business and offers
opportunities to work with the
local community and businesses
and may also pave way for young
creative who may want to go into
the field of design.
This proposal includes a public
plaza which is situated in the
middle of the two proposed
building, forming a space
where the public as well as the
employees of Mother can use.
The proposal seeks to foster
self-employment and start-up
businesses within the area, to
overthrow the dominance of
global brands moving in and to
create a balance which allows
more exposure for the local
community and to maintain
and promote local culture
significant value.
