The Lux
A legacy of the artistic colony that
was born out of the early nineties
looms over Hoxton in form of the
cluster of galleries that can be found
with in Shoreditch and Hoxton. With
the provocateurs of the movement
having long moved out, what
remains is perhaps a commodity;
an offering to the public through
the exhibitions of art work. Yet, the
correlation of galleries to studios do
not match up - there is little on offer
for the artists themselves.
What this design proposes is
fundamentally giving back studio
space to work in - the artists face in
the current climate a shortage of
affordable working environments to
which there is the added problem
that to what there is available, the
conditions would appear to be
somewhat uninspiring and not
best suited to enhance the creative
mindset, however much they may
advocate independence.
