Gladys Dimson House is the face of a 163 year old past , which represented despair , work and new life . But presently the life of this building shelters residents . As the edge of Forest Gate becomes gentrified , an expansion of The Olympic Village , E20 , the current residents are exposed to the harsh changes . The focus of the building is to tackle high crime rates , especially in antisocial behaviour , violence and sexual offences . As they are the two highest crimes being reported in the area , it needs to be dealt with . I will be designing a mixed use building which will house fitness classes including self defence , counselling sessions , entrepreneurship classes and a safe house . In order to fund the social work , I will be designing a hotel with a restaurant and an event space . “ The aim is to regenerate the area rather than causing gentrification .” - Carl Turner . |
