Centre of Revision
and Progression
Whitechapel has developed a
masterplan to support the aims of
the nearby Tech City. As this site
is just outside the masterplan, it
meets the same aims, in particular
that of increasing the presence of
medical research centres.
This proposal is a research centre
in surgical robotics that provides
a space to study and develop
technology that will aid people
within the field of medicine. It will
include an exhibition space to
display some of these products
and inventions of the past adding
another public attraction to the
area.
Many of the residents in the area
surrounding the site are students
due to the accommodations and
the universities that are located
near the area. This proposal
will focus on students studying
courses linked to computer
science and engineering (software
and mechanical) because of
the low employment rate for
graduates.
This research centre is aimed at
all universities that teach the two
disciplines and will be used by
collaborating students/alumni.

The concept is to bridge the gap
between past (museum space)
and future Robotics centre) and
also to bridge the gap between
public and private. On the ground
floor the exhibition will hold
inventions from the industrial
revolution. As users ascend they
transition to the future (augmented
reality and virtual reality) and also
see the researchers at work.
