URBAN LIFE 'N STYLE OCTOBER 2016 | OUT THE BOX | Page 50
Next up, after Rome was Naples.
Not as glamorous as Rome but if
you look past the graffiti and grime
it has a charm of its own. I toured
to Sorrento which is a wonderful
resort almost entirely given over to
the pursuit of pleasure.
The main reason for visiting Naples
is perhaps the most important one:
FOOD. More than any
other city it is the
Neapolitan diet that
is responsible for our
decades-long notion
of Italian food.
Pasta is a staple,
especially served with
a garlicky tomato
sauce and pizza was
invented here.
Naples is home to a
handful of
unpretentious restaurants that
serve the world’s most delicious,
and most authentic, pizza. I
somewhat think that all the Eating
was done here in the famous book
Eat, Pray, Love.
And then there was Florence.
Magnetic, charming and
exhilarating. Florence is the capital
city of Tuscany the home to
Tuscan wine and off course the
movie Under The Tuscan Sun.
Stand on a bridge over the Arno
river several times in a day and the
light, mood and view changes every
time. Walk the piazzas
and bump into
magnificent statues, it
is home to
Michelangelo’s David.
Florence is a living city
with a vibrant
restaurant and
nightlife scene, and a
lively cultural vibe that
embraces opera,
classical music &
contemporary art.
Picturesque, historic, full of quirky
shops and quality crafts and close
to the vine-covered hills of Chianti
a wine that Tuscany is known for,
Florence is one of Italy’s chosen
destinations.
Every city in Italy has a charm all its own. The true
enjoyment is to lose yourself in all the tangled cobbled lanes
and make your own little discoveries!
