There’s things I’m not wiling to talk about in my music, but what gave me the courage is it’s my way to continue my family’s legacy. I also realize that because I come from a musical family and I’ve had people get very close to being well known, it’s pushing that legacy forward. My aunt is a world renowned opera singer and educator. My dad was an R&B singer. His band released music last year. In my prayer, I found out I was the one who was supposed to take it to the next level. Everyone before me ultimately stopped to focus on family. I have to press forward. it’s not just about me. I have to set the bar higher for those behind me. I have to carry that weight, regardless of nerves. At this point, I don’t have a choice, or I don’t want my life to be in vein. Challenges come as an independent artist, but I have to keep going and stay motivated. It’s not just about me.

U.G. Digital Mag: I love your perspective. I relate to you, also coming from a musical family. There’s definitely that overall knowledge of how music can turn a lot of people around. You have a voice though, and you have purpose. You stand on your own and you’re not following the trends. You’re also building your own and not riding on the coattails.

Indi Tyton: Thank you so much….

U.G. Digital Mag: I know that you’re working on your sophomore album now, right?

Indi Tyton: I am. At first, I was going to put out a series of singles. I may do one more single before the album. After that, I plan to do a few EPs. The reason I want to do that is I want to do some different things. I don’t have a particular style, so this allows me to be consistent with who I am. I’m also a filmmaker. My husband is the primary filmmaker, and I’ve worked with him to do that. Now I’m focusing on my work. If i can do small EPs, I can keep it consistent and not lose anyone in the process. I also plan on doing a tour, but it won’t be until early 2017.

U.G. Digital Mag: Do you think you’ll merge music and filmmaking?

Indi Tyton: Yes, I will. I know it’s coming, but I just haven’t figured out how. They can create synergy for each other.

U.G. Digital Mag: It’s great that you have a background in both. It’s really going to work for you.

Indi Tyton: It’s good to have that resource, because it’s another barrier out of the way. Although my husband has his own projects, we also collaborate together. I’m reading where the trends are going, and people want video content. They want to know more about you. I want to let people in my space, but I just have to figure out how I will do it. I know I’m multi-faceted. You don’t have to just do one thing. Whatever you do, make sure you’re doing your best and stay true to yourself. In the end, you’re the one who has to look in the mirror and answer. I’m looking forward to creating more content where people can see how I accomplish these things. Also, taking it back to being multi-faceted and doing different things, I know of two different occasions when I was just working a nine to five, feeling like I just wanted to be an artist, and when I lived in Atlanta, I was walking and heard this lady with this heavenly voice. It turned out to be a homeless woman, and her voice was so awesome. Last summer, after I moved to Los Angeles, I was in Santa Monica, and that same thing happened, but the lady wasn’t homeless. She was out performing and collecting money. I think it was meant for me to see that though; I think it was God showing me that yes, you’re an artist, but it won’t be the only thing you do. If I only focused on that, who knows how it would affect me. There’s so much rejection. I’m thankful to have other areas of interest. It definitely keeps me grounded. I can appreciate it more.

U.G. Digital Mag: You can definitely wear multiple hats.

Indi Tyton: I agree. A lot of people now, even on like reality television where people have a resurgence in their career and it can be shown in a positive way, it’s good. Times are different now. People live longer, and technology has made it such that you can do a lot of things for yourself. Things are more attainable. I’m thankful to be in this place with current resources. I think this would
