PRESENTS

BRANFORD MARSALIS QUARTET

WITH SPECIAL GUEST KURT ELLING

Show Notes:

by Keith Hill

The Branford Marsalis Quartet with guest-vocalist Kurt Elling at Dallas City Performance Hall was a true enjoyment. It was my first time hearing the acoustics in the hall with true jazzmasters putting it to the test. The performers hit the stage at 8:10pm and for the next sixty minutes plus delivered true artistry. The band led by Branford Marsalis were a 'class act' in their delivery of some very complex arrangements that were performed flawlessly and with power. When the vocals of Kurt Elling were joined, the performance turned into a more heartfelt delivery. Kurt Elling became another instrument in the band. And, it was amazing to hear! Again, the room enabled you to hear all of the energy the performers were bringing. And, they brought it all to the room.

The Center should be commended for it's efforts to bring great perfomers to our city. AT&T Performing Arts Center was built with the promise that all of us could enjoy the finest of the arts. Jazz deserves a place in these venues. Shows like Branford Marsalis and Kurt Elling prove that very fact!

Bravo, ATTPAC!
