Drivetrain
The powertrain design of the UoP5e
mainly focuses on implementing
active torque vectoring, thus fully
exploiting the potential given by
using electric motors. In addition,
the team focused on increasing
operating
efficiency
of
the
powertrain,
while
significally
lowering the center of gravity.
The powertrain consists of two
EMRAX 207 motors, selected for
their high power-to-weight ratio
(35kW continuous output with a
weight of 9.3kg), high efficiency
(around 95% at operating range),
small size and reasonable price. By
using smaller, higher revving
motors, efficiency could be
significantly improved, leading to
the design and implementation of a
gearbox.
