A student's perspective. Alexander Krum Alexander Krum completed the University English Entry Course at UNSW Institute of Languages in 2015 and went on to complete a Masters of Information Technology at UNSW Sydney. My name is Alexander Krum and I came to Sydney from Germany. I wanted to fulfil my dream of getting a Masters of IT at one of the best universities worldwide. The Institute of Languages has played a major role in this life-changing goal. The more you study at UNSW, the more you realise how smartly the programs at the Institute of Languages are designed. I’ve used the skills that I learned at the Institute of Languages many times. The teachers at the Institute gave me this know- how, and I would like to thank them very much for this. The reason why I’m here is that I believed in myself many years ago. I was a young technician at a company which built equipment for the printing industry. Once, I said to my supervisor that I thought that the job could be done better or more efficiently and he replied that he paid me for working, not for thinking. So I quit that job and decided to study because I wanted to be paid for thinking. A few years later I graduated from my Bachelor degree as the best student at the faculty and got offered a scholarship. So I decided to take the next challenge, I wanted to prove to myself how far I can go. I decided to study at UNSW, it’s a new country, a new language, and everything is new and far away from Europe. But my IELTS score was too low so I couldn’t enrol at UNSW. I thought the dream was over. Thankfully there was the Institute of Languages for international students. I graduated last semester with a Masters of IT and had the most exciting graduation ceremony of my life. The teachers of the Institute of Languages were a part of this journey. Thank you to the teachers for the great job you did and continue to do. 48 Pathways Pathways to to Success Success “Thankfully there was the Institute of Languages for international students.
