He had a heart attack when he was 44, and last year, after suffering a mini-stroke at work, he learned that he has a serious heart condition that can only be managed through regular medication. The prescriptions he needs cost nearly $1,400 per month. Walter receives care at the Charlottesville Free Clinic, where he was referred to the United Way RxRelief Prescription Assistance program. He now gets his medication for a $3 per month co-pay. “I don’t know what I’d do without this program. I feel like I’m letting myself down because I can’t work anymore. By the time I pay my rent and buy groceries, I’m not sure what I could cut out to pay for my medicine. I’m grateful; this program is keeping me alive.” Walter Hunt, United Way RxRelief Client Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive United Way partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Teen Pregnancy Prevention and Parenting Support Jefferson Area CHiP Youth Fitness Boys & Girls Club 19
