UAP-Brunei Milestones
2013
• 8 November… the First General Assembly was held to
initiate the process of forming the Brunei Chapter. The
meeting was presided by Wario C. Tacbad and was attended
by 21 architects.
2014
• 9 April…the UAP National Board approved the formation
of the UAP Brunei Chapter as the 135th chapter of the UAP
under district B-3 through the sponsorship of the UAP Makati
CBD Chapter.
• 1 May… an election for interim chapter officers was held
with the following voted in their positions: Wario C. Tacbad,
President; Ma. Christina G. Esclabanan-Bajarias, VP-Programs
and Development; Neil R. Rutor, VP-Operations; Nina L.
Torregosa, Secretary; Domini N. Cordova, Treasurer; Noel
R. Consular, Auditor. A committee was also formed for the
preparation of the Charter Presentation and Inauguration
Ceremonies led by Rey Anthony I. Castillo and Hernando J.
Hautea, Jr., who were also appointed as directors.
• 24 August…The UAP Brunei Chapter held its Charter
Presentation and Inauguration Ceremonies at the Rizqun
International Hotel. UAP Vice President for Area A Corazon
C. Tandoc, assisted by immediate past NEVP Lora B. Rivera,
inducted the 31 Charter Members including the 8 Charter
Officers. The event was attended by Ambassador of the
Philippines to Brunei, His Excellency Nestor Z. Ochoa, and
his wife, Tomasa ‘Mayi’ Ochoa, representatives of the Filipino
Association in Brunei, President of the Pertubuhan Ukur
Jurutera & Arkitek (PUJA), YB Hj Zulkipli Hj Abd Hamid,
and Vice President/Chairman for Architect’s Division, Siti
Rozaimeriyanty DSLJ Hj Abd Rahman. Sponsors for the event
from the building industry were also present to support the
inauguration of the chapter. In the same event, 6 members
of the chapter were given recognition for their long-standing
service, contribution and dedication to Brunei for more
than 15 years: Rey Anthony I. Castillo, Noel R. Consular, Ma.
Christina G. Esclabanan-Bajarias, Alan F. Filio, Hernando H.
Hautea, Jr., and Neil R. Rutor.
• 5 October…the Chapter held an architectural tour of the
‘Venice of the East’, Kampong Ayer, a water village in Brunei
in celebration of the World Day of Architecture 2014 with the
theme ‘Healthy Cities, Happy Cities’.
2015
• 11 January… The Chapter held its first ALE Review
Classes for Filipino architecture graduates planning to take
the Architect’s Licensure Exam. The lecturers for the classes
were Chapter members and other invited consultants and
engineers from PICE Brunei Chapter. A guest mentor from the
Philippines, Ar. Jhin Tabuzo, Jr. was also invited to lecture on
the Design classes.
• 23 February…UAP Brunei joined the Filipino Community
contingent at the 31st Brunei National Day Parade for the first
time..
• 26 March…The Chapter celebrated UAP’s 40th Founding
Anniversary through a simultaneous GMM held on that day.
A simple celebratory dinner was organized to commemorate
the founding of the UAP as well as to culminate its major
Chapter project, the ALE Review Classes. The GA reviewers
were also invited to celebrate with the members.
• 12 June…The UAP Brunei Chapter joined the Filipino
Community in Brunei in celebrating the 117th Anniversary of
the Proclamation of Philippine Independence at the Philippine
Embassy in Brunei where His Excellency Meynardo LB.
Montealegre, Philippine Ambassador to Brunei, led the Flag
Hoisting Ceremony to commemorate the special occasion.
Representing the Chapter were President Jigs Tacbad, VP for
Operations Neil Rutor, Treasurer Dominic Cordova, Auditor
Noel Consular and members Delaine Galvez and Rey Ramos.
• 5 August…UAP Brunei Chapter paid a courtesy call to
the new Philippine Ambassador to Brunei, His Excellency
Meynardo LB Montealegre. The new ambassador is the 9th
envoy to the Sultanate since full diplomatic relations were
established between the two countries on 1st January 1984.
• 15 August…Eight (8) UAP Brunei Chapter members did
voluntary painting work at the Breastfeeding Room of the
new Children’s Accident and Emergency Department of the
