Among the unique attractions to enjoy is a play performed by the elementary students of Woody Gap School. Dressed in period dress to represent native American Indians and earlier settlers in the area, the students present a drama depicting Indian life in the area decades ago. It is a truly unique festival attraction no other festival in the mountains offer. Students have booths that feature items from freshly made old-fashion fried apple pies to fresh squeezed lemonade. Vendors offer scores of arts and crafts including pottery, leather crafts, knives, needlework , folk art, jewelry, furniture and more. The event is welcoming to all artists and crafts people, amateur and professional. Gaddistown Homemakers make beautiful quilts prior to the event and during the festival they bake pies and cakes for sale. A large variety of tasty insures something for every taste. Exhibits include wildlife and there are games for children to play. A variety of live music and entertainment takes place on the stage at the festival. Good things to eat include pork BBQ plates and sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes, boiled peanuts, cotton candy, fried apple pies and homemade preserves. Each day a live auction is held for those in attendance to bid on scores of items donated for the occasion. Saturday night a country square dance with a live band is held in the Suches Community Center. The Run Above the Clouds offers 10K and 5K road races over a beautifully scenic, challenging out-and-back course through the North Georgia mountains on the first morning of the festival. There is also a 1-mile Fun Run & Dog Jog. 1 2 4 3D Extra 38 Backyard Lane, Blairsville, GA Located on Hwy. 515 next to Galaxy Bowling Blairsville 2.5 miles east 706-745-1000 www.blairsvillecinema.com Jewelry World 706.835.1320 168 Hwy. 515 Mon-Fri 9am to 6pm We Buy GOLD & Anything of Value We buy all gold, silver, diamonds, coins, broken jewelry, estate jewelry, plus anything else of any value great or small. In 2011 a runner reported seeing a bear on the course, just sitting there watching the runners pass. The Festival is a project of the Woody Gap Sports Club, a non-profit organization and all proceeds go to the Woody Gap School. More than 20 years ago some faculty members and other community residents became aware that there were no decent uniforms or other necessary equipment for the Woody Gap School students. What began as a fund raiser grew into the Indian Summer Festival, and the Sports Club evolved out of the need for some continuity. 1st Run Movies Suite A&B Owner Ernie Roberge 5 1-Vendors. 2-Live Auction. 3-Indian Drama. 4-Fresh baked pies. 5-Students’ booth. 6-Meat cooking for BBQ.
