In my past and present, I have heard a lot of old heads complain that Hip Hop is dead. What’s funny is, for a long time I felt the same way. Around 2003 and 2004, I stopped listening to the new hip hop or rap artist that was being played on the radio. At the time, while living in Cleveland Ohio , Z107.9 was the popular urban station to listen to on the airways. It went on to become a circus with hip hop clowns, balloons, and was just a plain joke. I later moved to NC and the station here was even more watered down, as well, but even more so than Cleveland. I was so bored of the lack of imagination with hip hop that I started to listen to Rock 24/7.
With my passion for music, I started to think that has to be more out there than what I was forced to listen to. I started brainstorming and came to the conclusion to start my own internet radio station. My creation is known as Guaradio.com. With my own money, I purchased music and everything needed to bring the heat to my station. Yes, that’s right, I said purchased; no playing YouTube videos, which is by the way against the law.
Learning:
When I first started the station, it was to bring true lyricist back to the fore front. Due to my lack of knowledge I was sinking. The people that where being promoted was exceeding and it was harder to find that diamond in the rough. By a miss typed letter in Google search, I found a hosts of underground artist and started listening to their music. I felt it was a good idea to then place a link for Underground Artist to leave music for me to debut on the station. This sparked more avenues to promote true hip hop and rap to the masses. Artists like, The Message, the song is what you are hearing now. Other artists that are being played are De Way A, Smooth Da king, Show Hampton, Sn00py Symone, A.M.B, and more. This is what it is about, this is why I do what I do, to bring all these elements together. I am a Hip Hop Alchemist, so keep watch to see the musical hydrogen bomb I create!
