"We are all a resource to each other"

Underground Runway is no exception. Sometimes it takes just one person to recognize your talents- one person to show support for your dreams. Fall 2012, on the campus of Mills College, UGRW presented its very first fashion show. Radiating a type of creativity that is infectious from Oakland to San Francisco to Baton Rouge, Mona Webb stands out as a volunteer and activist. Acting as Mistress of Ceremony for the evening it was a perfect fit for UGRW’s first ever show. We were honored to work with such a profound member of the Oakland community.

Underground Runway’s vision of supporting new artists was somewhat unheard of and shocking to some. Admittedly, it is rare to affirm the sharing of skills. Distrust and fear often block the path to the building of collaborative relationships. We ask: how else do you build something bigger than the sum of its parts? As Mistress of Ceremony, Mona Webb delivered her craft of choice, poetry, and gifted the crowd words that empowered the mission and vision of UGRW.
