Wilton Centre is one of the UK ’ s best-known locations for high-quality research and development facilities and high-specification office space . With an international reputation as a well-regarded , high-quality science park , it has a long heritage of accommodating many household-name tenants . The Centre is located in a spacious complex set in a 75 acre landscaped park with its own lake and courtyards and provides 1,600 free car parking spaces . This all combines to make it a very pleasant place to work . In addition , the Centre actively works with tenants to promote a healthy workplace , achieving the Better Health at Work Bronze Award from NHS North East .
Built by its former owners ICI in 1975 , the Centre was subsequently developed as a world-class research and technology centre for ICI ’ s petrochemicals , plastics and advanced materials businesses . Since 1999 the Centre has been privately managed as a multi-tenanted research , technical , and business centre .
High Value Manufacturing Catapult ( HVMC ) The Centre is home to one of seven national centres established and overseen by Innovate UK , with over £ 200 million of government investment . The HVMC exists to stimulate growth in the manufacturing sector . Operated by the Centre for Process Innovation ( CPI ), it aims to help accelerate new concepts to commercial reality by offering scientists , engineers , and entrepreneurs access to a pool of expertise and experience within academia , research , industry , and government .
University Links Teesside University has an office at Wilton Centre to build on its strong networks with businesses based here . Members of the University ’ s business team are on hand to help tenants with specialist expertise , training , recruitment , facilities , and global networks as well as sourcing funding to support continued growth . Centre tenants also benefit from interaction with the four other northeast universities . Both Newcastle and Durham have spun out new businesses into the Centre , benefiting from its unique positioning at “ the heart of the process industries ”. Northumbria is available for its unique insights into design and new technology whilst Sunderland has provided opportunities for collaborations with some of its new business start-ups .
