The University’s technology strength is complemented by the resources of Strathclyde Business School, one of the largest schools of business and administration in Europe, and a major centre of expertise in finance, economics, industrial relations, law and marketing. Glasgow University is the fifth oldest University in Britain and, as such, it has helped to set the standards in teaching and scholarship for which British Universities are famous. The University has over 120 departments but has particular strength in the following areas: • Biotechnology • Human and animal vaccine development • Lasers in medicine and surgery • Marine and ocean engineering technology • Basic and applied immunology • Microwave thermography in diagnostics • Integral optics, fibre optics and laser communications.
