The Surrey Research Park

The Surrey Research Park has provided space and services to technology companies since 1984 . Owned by the University of Surrey , the Park has five key objectives : to assist with economic development of the national , regional , and local economy ; to raise the profile and international reputation of the University and Guildford as a centre of excellence in technology ; to create opportunities for technology transfer by strengthening links between the University and industry ; to help European-based industry maintain its competitive edge through fostering innovation ; and to create independent income for the University , while creating an opportunity for academic staff to act as consultants to companies on the Park .

Technology clusters Over 500 companies have developed at the Surrey Research Park . There is a dynamic community of technology businesses that have formed technology clusters , which attracts talent and access to technology through links with the University of Surrey .
Currently there are around 150 tenant companies , including some yet to secure market funding which are using mixtures of support from organisations such as UKRI and private investment , and others that are fully market funded and continue to consolidate on the site , where they occupy some of the 65,000m 2 of space to be found on the Park .
Some companies have been attracted to the Park via open innovation strategies operated by larger companies , while others are small companies operating in highly technical niche markets .
Building employment The broad range of technologies being developed by these businesses include : digital technologies across a range of sectors including virtual and artificial reality , media and games development , biotechnology , cybersecurity , companies in the SaaS arena , bio-informatics , engineering , and contract research organisations , as well as some actively involved in research and development and the manufacturing of small satellites in the bespoke SSTL Kepler Building .
Today there are around 4,500 staff working on the Surrey Research Park , with some companies having grown to employ hundreds of personnel .
