An Outside Shot? - Men The field for this years Lakeside is one of the strongest assembled since the infamous split and there is every chance that a relative outsider will take the tournament win. Perhaps the two most likely are Darryl Fitton and Robbie Green. Fitton, a two-time Lakeside semi-finalist is priced at 28/1, while Green is available at 20/1. There are also a number of other contenders who could be in with a shout. Jan Dekker is a former semi-finalist and he is a big favourite in his opening match with fellow Dutchman Benito van de Pas, while former PDC player Tony Eccles looks to be one of the more dangerous unseeded players. And if you wanted to go for a real outsider, then why not look at Shizmiu Hiroaki of Japan or Dave Cameron of Canada, who will both be in action in the preliminary round and can both be backed at odds of 500/1 An Outside Shot? - Ladies Experienced Wales captain Julie Gore, an in form Rachel Brooks or fearless youngster Fallon Sherrock all have what it takes to win titles and they are all benefitting from being seeded in the draw, but there are also some great unseeded players in what is the strongest ladies field ever assembled at the Lakeside Country Club. Former Winmau World Master Lisa Ashton, Lorraine Farlam and Dutch international Sharon Prins are all Photo: Mike Glover/UK Darts Magazine great outside shouts for the title, in fact the ladies event is so close to call this year that I wouldn’t like to pick a winner. A Nine Dart Finish? There hasn’t been a nine-darter at Lakeside since Paul Lim hit the very first one back in 1990, but there are more matches this year and one of the strongest fields assembled in Frimley Green since the split so yes there is a chance that you may just witness a nine-darter at this years Lakeside World Championship. In recent weeks Gary Robson missed double 12 for a televised nine-darter at the Zuiderduin Masters, whilst other player, including Stephen Bunting managed to land six perfect darts to open legs.
