Following the huge success of last years World Series events
the decision was taken to expand the tour to at least three
events this year, with the first, like last year taking place in
Dubai.
The two day event, which took place in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis
Stadium on 29th and 30th May, featured the top eight players from
the PDC Order of Merit and threw up some of the best matches of the
season to date.
There were good performances from Peter Wright, Adrian Lewis and
Dave Chisnall, but when all was said and done it was Michael van
Gerwen who retained the trophy that he had won in the tournament’s
inaugural year.
Quarter Finals
Adrian Lewis 10-5 Raymond van Barneveld
Recently crowned Premier League Champion van Barneveld may well
have been expected to take victory in this match, certainly if current
form was to go by. But as they say form is temporary and class is
permanent, a point underlined by Lewis who put in a great display to
progress to the semi-finals.
A Glorious Double
For van Gerwen
