Belgian brothers Kim and Ronny Huybrechts Both have reached the semi-finals of the European
Championship in the last two year, Kim in 2012 and
are Unicorn’s latest big name signings.
The talented pair have both agreed four year contracts
with the world’s leading darts manufacturer.
The deal will see Kim join in the Maestro category
with Ronny as a Contender. The pair famously came
close to winning the World Cup of Darts last year, but
were edged out in the final by England.
Kim said: “This is just a real honour for me and it has
come at the perfect time as I try to take my game to
the next level. To be able to work with Unicorn and
develop my darts is a huge boost and I will deliver
the results over the next four years.”
And it’s a double celebration for the 28-year-old
after partner Dana gave birth to their first child last
week, a daughter Ashley-Mae.
For 48-year-old Ronny, it really is a darting dream! “It
is difficult to find the words after what has happened
to me in the last year or so, finally I am playing and
winning at the highest level and now I am part of
Team Unicorn. I have to pinch myself!”
Ronny last year after he had beaten Phil Taylor on
the way.
It was the 2011 tournament in Dusseldorf where
Kim announced his arrival in the PDC ranks when he
got to the quarter-finals and followed it up months
later with a terrific run to the last eight at the World
Championship.
Unicorn Managing Director Edward Lowy couldn’t
hide his delight at the capture of the Huybrechts
brothers.
“Well, there you go. You toe the oche at Unicorn for
77 years waiting for a Huybrechts to come along and
would you believe two join us at the same time!”
“We are delighted to be working with Kim and Ronny
– the fabulous Belgian boys – having admired their
skill and tenacity from afar for some time.”
Kim is on the verge of heading back into the top 16
in the world, while Ronny is targeting a place in the
top 32 by the end of the year.
