Thursday 3rd April was ‘Judgement Night’ in this season’s
Betway Premier League, and with three players looking to
avoid Simon Whitlock in being eliminated there was a lot riding
on the matches which took place at the Motorpoint Arena in
Cardiff.
Dave Chisnall secured his survival with a 7-5 victory over Wes Newton,
which eliminated the Fleetwood-based thrower for a second year in
a row and also ensured the survival of Scotland’s Robert Thornton,
despite the former UK Open Champion suffering defeat at the hands of
a resurgent Phil Taylor.
Michael van Gerwen remained top of the league after playing out a
draw with the relegated Simon Whitlock, whilst Peter Wright returned
to winning ways when he took on fellow Scotsman Gary Anderson in the
night’s opening match.

Peter Wright opened the match with a 180, but it was Anderson who
took the opening leg after the World Championship runner-up had
missed four darts at double.
Wright quickly recovered to level up and the players were very evenly
matched as they shared legs on the way to 4-4.
With a tense finish to the match set up it was Anderson who struck first,
but it was Wright who finished the stronger of the two, securing a point
in the eleventh leg and wrapping up the victory in the twelfth despite
