Where Now For The Australian's Season?
By his own high standards, Australian ace
Simon Whitlock had what can only be
described as a worful Betway Premier League
campaign, albeit somewhat quietly as Phil
taylor’s poor form early took the headlines.
The former European Champion picked up
only one victory and was relegated after nine
weeks of action when he found himself at the
foot of the table.
This year in general has been a far cry from
Whitlock’s past glories, indeed if it were a school
report it would probably read ‘Could do better’, and
whilst there have been reports of ill health, in the
form of blocked ears and ear infections, there can
be no doubt that he must be worried about his form
and wondering where this season will go for him.
Of course Whitlock’s current ranking, 4th in the PDC
Order of Merit at the time of writing, will ensure
that he at least plays in all of the season’s major
tournaments, but with plenty of money to defend
it will only take a few poor performances for him to
plummet down the rankings.
There are a whole host of players coming through
at the moment, James Wade is returning to form,
Peter Wright is playing the darts of his life and Dave
Chisnall and Raymond van Barneveld will be boosted
by good Premier League campaigns.
The future is far from all bleak however, indeed a
win and two draws from his final four matches of the
Premier League season will mean that at the very
least the Australian ace will have something to build
on as he moves into the remainder of the season.
Indeed he was quoted as saying “I’ve not quite been
at my best throughout the Premier League but I’ve
learned plenty. I will go away and re-gr
