Qualifier 5
Qualifier 6
Gary Anderson became the first man to pick up two
tournament victories in 2014 as he backed up his
European Tour victory earlier in the season with a
win in the fifth of six UK Open Qualifiers.
It took Michael van Gerwen a mere 11 minutes to
wrap up the final of the last UK Open Qualifier of the
season. The Dutchman defeated Michael Smith 6-0 to
book his spot in the last 64 of the main tournament.
Anderson defeated fellow Scot Robert Thornton 6-2
in the final, whilst his other impressive performances
on the day included a 6-4 win over Kim Huybrechts
and a 6-5 win over Justin Pipe.
The newly crowned World Champion’s other results
on the day included 6-3 wins over both Justin Pipe
and an in form Adrian Lewis as he romped to the
tournament victory in double quick time.
On the other side of the draw Thornton made steady
progress, taking out Dean Winstanley and Wes
Newton along the way, but by far his best result of
the day was a 6-0 whitewash of Andy Hamilton in the
semi-finals.
Meanwhile on the opposite side of the draw, the St
Helens-based Smith was busy dispatching a host of
top players, including Ronnie Baxter, Vincent van der
Voort and Wes Newton, whom he defeated 6-5 in a
thrilling semi-final.
