Premier League: Week 3
The Betway Premier League stars made the first of their two
trips across the Irish Sea on Thursday 20th February when they
took darts greatest roadshow to the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.
Peter Wright remained unbeaten as he defeated Phil Taylor,
whilst Michael van Gerwen moved clear at the top of the table
thanks to a win over Dave Chisnall.
Robert Thornton 7-2 Gary Anderson
Thornton put on an impressive display as he defeated fellow Scotsman
Anderson in the opening match of the night.
The former UK Open champion raced into a 3-0 lead during the early
stages before a 121 checkout for Anderson helped him to close the gap
to 3-2.
It was Thornton who kicked on after the break, indeed The Thorn, who
landed 8 maximums during the match, took each of the last four legs
to finish up with a 7-2 victory.
“I’m very happy to play like that tonight,” said Thornton, who averaged
over 105. “It was just a case of finding my rhythm and I played that
little bit quicker tonight like I did at Alexandra Palace and that really
worked for me.”
“I kicked off every leg with a treble figure score and that’s massive,
you put pressure on any player out there with scoring like that.”
“I’m really over the
moon with that
result”
