UK Cigar Scene Magazine May Issue 5 | Page 5

The Perfect Sunday Afternoon One day earlier this year, three cigar lovers were sitting around smoking and talking about cigar events and the discussion concluded that almost every event paired a cigar with some kind of alcohol. The gentleman pondered why there wasn’t an events for nondrinkers and what else would you pair a cigar with? They decided to do something about it. Mike Choi, one of the UK’s top Cigar Sommeliers from the Edward Sahakian Lounge in Knightsbridge, Emanuel ‘Manny’ Brefin, cigar aficionado & stalwart of the cigar scene and Zach Falconer Barfield, co ounder of the Perfect Gentleman set f to work. From their musings and the desperate lack of serious cigar events on a Sunday afternoon, Sunday Taste was born. Our first event was on Sunday 19th April, where we paired a Cohiba Robusto from 2013 with some of the world’s most expensive coffee, the Kopi Luwak Ruby coffee courtesy of Bespoke Beverages. Their fantastic Master Coffee Brewer, David ably demonstrated his skill and gave us a perfect cup of coffee which went fabulously with the cigar. The next event will be May 31st when we will be joined by Borough Box bringing some of their wonderful cheeses. Full details are in the diary and tickets are available here. Keep an eye out for future interesting tasty sunday afternoon pairings. Sunday Taste events will be held every month on Sunday afternoon at the Edward Sahakian Lounge at the Bulgari Hotel, hosted by the Perfect Gentleman. Mike will pair a classic cigar with some very different taste experiences. On some occasions we will have a special guest for a small Sunday afternoon conversation with the other cigar lovers in attendance. All of this at an affordable price. Over the course of the year we will be pairing classic cigars with a variety of different tastes such as Cheese, Chocolate, Tea, Jam, Meat and even a fragrance and a few surprise guests to have a conversation with over the cigar and a different taste or two. 4
