London to host
Qualification for the
World Cigar Smoking Championships
Some two years ago the Cigar Smoking World
Championships took place in Croatia and
an American, Darren Cioffi, won the title by
managing to smoke a Mareva sized cigar (5 1/8 “ by
42 ring gauge) for an amazing 1 hour, 55 minutes
and 35 seconds. In recent qualifying competitions
for this year’s event Cioffi has pushed this to an
astounding 2:27:27.
If you think that is a long time you should see the
rules; competitors are given a small, Mareva-size
cigar, which would normally only take 30 minutes
to smoke, only one minute is allowed to cut and
prepare the cigar. Then, competitors are given just
two matches to light the cigar, the matches are
removed and the competitors are on their own to
see who can make the cigar last the longest. There
are many other complex rules to ensure everything
is fair.
Now, for the very first time, there will be a
qualifying round of the competition in London.
