The cigar lovers of London and many
visitors from overseas beat a path to his
door. Then in the late 1990’s he expanded
the restaurant, installed six large humidors
and set to work stocking them with every
Cuban cigar available and many rare and
vintage cigars with the express having
the very best selection of cigars in any
restaurant anywhere in the world.
With a blend of great food, live music
and cigars it’s clear that the period up to
the smoking ban in 2007 was a golden
age for cigar smokers. With the ban
looming Ranald, as a passionate advocate
of smoker’s rights was not going to let
the new legislation ruin his customer’s
enjoyment. After a long period of planning
Boisdale of Belgravia opened the first Cigar
Terrace in the UK just as the ban became
effective. Equipped with heaters and
tartan blankets the terrace was the only
place in London to enjoy a cigar all year
round and it was often almost impossible
to get a seat.
The ethos of Boisdale has always been
that it’s somewhere to have fun with
great company, food, drink, music and
cigars and Ranald soon set his sights on
expansion to the east and the opening of
Boisdale Canary Wharf.
With a large restaurant and live music
stage, a separate Oyster and champagne
bar, two cigar terraces and a cigar store/
library Boisdale Canary wharf is one of the
major landmarks of the UK Cigar scene.
