WHAT’S IN YOUR HUMIDOR?
UK Cigar stores have a proud heritage of aging cigars for their customers so that they can enjoy the
subtle and refined pleasures of an aged cigar.
In this monthly feature we will ask a cigar specialist, either a store or a cigar terrace, to tell us about two
of the rare, aged cigars which they have available.
This month we called in to the Wellesley Hotel in Knightsbridge to enjoy a cigar with Giuseppe Ruo who
is the Executive Food and Beverage Director at one of London’s finest Hotels.
Giusseppe told me that the hotel was very much built around the humidor and the
two smoking terraces which flank the entrance. This is a place where you come to
smoke some of the most expensive cigars in the world and match them with an
equally stellar cognac. Everything has been built without compromise, the humidor
with its marble map of Cuba on the floor, purpose built chairs and a heating system
which will keep you warm whatever the British weather chooses to throw at you. All
this with Giusseppe’s passion, shared by his staff.
Cigar 1
Cohiba Sublime
2004 54 ring Gauge
Length 6½”
“This is a very easy selection because I believe
that the Cohiba Sublime 2004 is the best cigar
I ever smoked in my life. But, having said it is
very similar to the Cohiba Siglo VI Gran Reserva
because the tobacco comes from the same harvest.
I have two boxes of these myself. I smoke one
every Christmas. I have smoked 12 and I have 38
left to see how they evolve and every time it’s a
wonderful event to smoke a Cohiba Sublime”
Cigar 2
Partagas Sublime
2011 from the 165th
Anniversary Humidor
54 ring gauge,
length 6½”
“The second cigar will be the Partagas Sublime
from the 165th Anniversary humidor.
This cigar was released in 2011 and only in a
limited edition of 165 humidors each of which
contained 50 cigars, 25 of which were the Sublime.
The humidors were released at the Partagas
Festival and I bought thirty humidors for the
hotel and now we offer the single cigars to our
customers”
