What does aging bring to a cigar? Finesses. smoothness, silkiness.... a better draw... a taste that has all the rough edges knocked off... a cigar will become more than a cigar. It will change the cigar from a good cigar to a great cigar, as long as the tobacco is age worthy. What is the difference between a newly released box aged cigar and one from the 10% of cigars which you reserve for extra aging? The non aged cigars lack all the qualities that I mention above. As I say, we don’t smoke cigars.. we taste them and you want to light up that aged cigar much more than a non aged cigar. Cuban or non Cuban. I suggest to my clients to make the taste test themselves. Put away a cigar for 12 months. Then taste the 12 month old cigar and a currently purchased cigar and they will see what I’m speaking of for themselves. I watched a video interview in which you talked about how you started. Did you build your boat? The dream of the boat, building the boat, getting it 80 percent complete was the fact that impressed my girlfriends grandfather. No, once I gave him the 3 cigar case gift, I never worked another day on the boat. The dream led to another dream... to create in California beautiful smokers furniture and gifts for the most esteemed luxury gift houses of the world. Cartier, Harrods, Mappin and Webb, Garrards, Dunhill, Hermes, Fred Joieller, Asprey of London, Bally of Switzerland.. As I say, when you live your dream, you don’t need to wake up.... Did you ever do your voyage around the world? No, but I was last week on a friend’s 35 meter sail boat and the moments on that boat were some of the best in years. Enjoying one of our aged DM Churchill cigars with my friends, sailing across the sea was a great moment. Bringing my two loves together sailing and fine cigars, savouring with close friends. If not, is it still on your agenda? YES, without a doubt. My friend that has this amazing sailing yacht is planning a 3 year round the world cruise and I hope to be on that boat for part of the adventure. 9 You can find more details on Daniel Marshall humidors on Daniel’s web site http://www. danielmarshall.com/humidors.html
