However, competition BBQ is not just about competing. It's a fantastic opportunity to catch up with friends, old and new. Anyone on the UK BBQ scene will tell you that they feel part of a wider community.

Social media helps to forge great friendships online, and competition weekends are the perfect time to meet and catch up with like minded people for a couple of beers.

So what's next for the BBQ Barons?

On the competition scene, we will be one of the teams just having competed at The Big Meat festival, held during the August bank holiday near Farnham in Surrey. It's a strong field, some of the UK's best teams are competing and it promises to be a great weekend. There's more to come in 2017 - we are already signed up for the KCBS Brew ‘n’ Q open competition and plan to sign up for a couple more across the summer – maybe even finally making it over to one of the European comps.

We also are planning a couple of events to fuel our passion for feeding people. We are currently looking at some collaborations over the course of the rest of this year and into 2017.

It'll be a busy 12 months for the blog, too. We plan to continue posting our favourite recipes on the site, together with some new features, so watch this space for more exciting experiments in the world of outdoor cooking.
