Having travelled to Kenya on a number of occasions on charity work supporting the Nasio trust I was introduced to the marvels of Carnivore back in 2005. Now it has become the Mecca for all our group visits and Kilimanjaro climb groups at the end of a difficult week.

Having spent 7 days in the remote western Kenyan village of Mumias living on nothing but rice and ugali (the Kenyan staple made from maize flour and water into a mash potato type gloop) the thought of returning to Carnivore was all the kept me focused on the last few days.

For those of you who have not heard of Carnivore they are an open-air restaurant in the Langata suburb of Nairobi renowned for their open fire pits and the wide variety of game meats they serve. The meat is skewered on Maasai swords and cooked over coals.

The ever changing menu covers everything from rump steaks and ribs to crocodile, giraffe and bison testicles (actually quite tasty if you can forget what you are actually eating).
