Early Years - K2/K3 Mother-Tongue Storytelling
On Thursday, September 21st, we welcomed our K2 and K3 storytelling parents to share their storybooks with their group of children who all speak the same language.

This is a year-long event where parents come together once a month to tell stories in their home language. This year we have sixteen (16) groups in ten (10) different languages; namely English, Putonghua, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, French, Dutch, German, Portuguese and Hebrew.
So what are the benefits?
There is much more to the Mother-Tongue Storytelling sessions than just storytelling. While the children are sitting, there is respect for space to allow everyone to see the book. The children continue to learn more words in their own language and find out more about their own culture. Storytelling also helps build attention-span as children sit and listen. Children are in their comfort zone when listening to stories in their own mother-tongue and they are more likely to ask questions or critique the story with more confidence.
