The performing Arts department has had a busy semester and it was evident at the UISG Open day showcase that the school is alive with music. In the drama department students are preparing for the Christmas Carol Production, and for this production live music will be provided by the Whole School Orchestra and the USG Honour Choir.

Participation in choirs has flourished during this academic year and we currently have over 300 students participating in one of our six active choirs on a weekly basis. In the classroom we have introduced African Djembe drumming as part of the World Music Program and as well as the ukulele in the primary section. During the course of their journey at UISG students are now able to play violin, ukulele, marimba, drums, xylophone, guitar and recorder as part of the normal classroom music program.

The focus at UISG is to give the maximum amount of students an opportunity to participate in music making. Students can participate in a variety of marimba, rock bands, violin and ukulele ensembles, salsa band, ukulele group as well as the UISG whole school orchestra. The orchestra has currently has over 45 participating members, and is establishing itself into a premier music ensemble at UISG. The UISG got talent is a wonderful opportunity for the student bands and individual soloist to show their talents, and also includes some student driven dance groups.

The Primary Music Assembly and the Open Day Arts Showcase was a wonderful opportunity for these groups to perform, and in included musical items by the beginner violin group, choirs, orchestra, rock band, marimba bands and a newly formed ukulele group.

In addition, the Honours and Upper Primary Choirs has been invited this year to perform at three premier hotels in Guangzhou for their Christmas Lighting Ceremonies and combined with the annual performances at iFOL and the Christmas Carol Production it will be a very musical Festive Season at UISG.
