IRHA UPDATE Residence Hall Week moves to Fall with theme "Only 90s Kids Will Remember" by JACKIE PHILLIPS, IRHA PRESIDENT Photos provided by MATT PENDLETON & JACKIE PHILLIPS The annual week-long tradition of Residence Hall Week was moved to the fall semester in Fall 2016 with the hopes of increasing resident turnout and showcasing IRHA (Inter-Residence Hall Association) in a unique, large-scale way during move-in week. Area Coordinator Demarcus Merritt, President Fuchs, his wife Linda Fuchs, and IRHA president Jackie Phillips are all smiles during the shaving cream fight. From August 16th-22nd, IRHA threw it back to the 90s with Only 90s Kids Will Remember Residence Hall Week 2016. The week began with two nights of area government events; there were four events each night with programs ranging from ice cream socials to lip-sync battles with over two hundred residents in attendance. On Thursday, over two hundred students participated in the shaving cream fight alongside President Fuchs and his wife. For Friday’s event, IRHA partnered with Gator Dining Services for a convocation pool party at the Graham Pool. We hosted an adventure night in the Yulee Pit on Saturday night with multiple carnival-like attractions, including an inflatable twister and jousting, a rock climbing wall, a zip line, free corndogs, funnel cakes, and churros. We had over 1,3550 residents checkin at this event, making IRHA history and doubling the turnout from last year’s adventure night in the spring. On Sunday, we brought back IRHA Palooza by hosting a concert featuring DJ Earworm. Our final event of the week was Slimefest, fulfilling residents’ childhood dreams of wanting to be slimed on the Nickelodeon channel through a slime show cohosted by Theatre Strike Force. Overall, Residence Hall Week 2016 was a huge success and could be considered “all that and a bag of chips.”
