In 2014 the Images of Research Exhibition was presented at the European Commission Representation in Ireland and later at the Innovation Convention 2014 in Brussels , where it was seen by over 5000 people. Faces of Research UCD Science Expression UCD Faces of Research is a collection of films that showcases leading researchers in UCD and their contribution to society, delivered through a range of digital media channels. The video profiles portray the passion, commitment and drive of the researcher, while also evoking some of the ‘magic of discovery’, that is research. The series gets inside the mind of the researcher to try to understand what academic research is and why it is important. Focus is also given to the impact of research in the broadest sense, highlighting where research has, or could contribute to society in areas of health, environment, social policy, innovation, job creation and culture. UCD Science Expression is Ireland’s first and only dedicated science film festival. As a public engagement programme it invigorates conversation around science, technology, research and innovation through film and new media. Since 2012, it has showcased some of the most exciting filmmaking inspired by science to over 10,000 audience members. Festival partners and supporters have included; Science Foundation Ireland, Dublin City Council, The Arts Council, GOOGLE, UN Decade on Biodiversity, IADT, CINEGLOBE at CERN and the General Electric programme GE Focus Forward Short, Films Big Ideas. IMAGES OF RESEARCH The UCD Images of Research Competition offers UCD Researchers the opportunity to submit compelling digital images created in the course of their research. It aims to find the most innovative and imaginative research images that convey the depth and range of research taking place at UCD. Since 2006 over 1600 images have been uploaded 24
