Over the last 10 years, UCD researchers doubled the annual number of publications produced. In this time period, UCD has come from having publication impact below world average in 2003 to 56% above world average in 2013. UCD researchers have produced a number of publications that are highly cited or referenced. UCD Ranks No. 1 globally in Agricultural Science citation impact at large scale (> 500 papers) Essential Science Indicators Thomson Reuters InCites™ (2009-2013) As an example of academic impact, Professor Des Higgins has over 100,000 total citations; making him the most cited Irish researcher, and one of the most cited researchers in the world, for his work on DNA sequence comparisons. More than 70 scientific publications by UCD researchers have been cited over 200 times.
